Maureen McCabe of ColumbusBestBlog, my fairy blogmother, was memed and shared her media consumption habits as a result. Maureen has now passed the honor to me. Instead of sharing 5 things no one knows about me (which I've done 3 or 4 times now and have run out of secrets!), I'll follow Maureen's example and talk about my media consumption. This morph in the meme is a perfect example of how a meme evolves and becomes better at distracting us.
- WEB - I'm not sure about e-mail. It's fairly recent history. Maybe the late 1990's when our MLS first allowed us to e-mail listings to clients? I immediately grasped the positives of e-mail: paper trail, multiple recipients for the same message, clarity of message, somewhat like a contract since the conversation is all in writing. Website? Fall of 2005. I had a company generated site before that for a couple years and my own domain but not my own designed website. I cringe at what the old one looked like!
- BROWSER - Firefox except for when I edit my website and make input into the MLS. Both services require IE.
- AGGREGATOR - Hmmmm, let's see. Vague recollection. Aggregate: To gather into a mass, sum, or whole. So that would be a service that gathers info that I use to get content? In a way our MLS is an aggregator: Google maps, Google Earth, tax records, listing company info can all be accessed from the listing sheet (by agents only). Otherwise I don't think I use an aggregator. Mash-up . . . Teresa told me about that when we won the carnival of scary stories on Active Rain. It's kind of like a massive aggregator. Zillow would be a good example.
- WIKI - No clue how to start and I'm jealous of those who are incorporating them into their blogs!
- GROUPS - Let's see . . . there was the FSBO group with Paula Bean from RealTalk (That seems so long ago!); Ardell's how to start your own brokerage (They still pop up once in awhile.); "my other blog is . . ." on Active Rain; and a couple of private ones which are done by e-mail only.
- BLOG PLATFORM - So very long ago Maureen urged me to start a blog based on my participation in RealTalk. My first post to the RealTown blog was January 13, 2006, so I'm relatively new. So many years of experience seem packed into time since then. RealTown was the best place to start a blog. There was a cohort of beginners who encouraged one another to blog and helped in learning HTML. RT blogs were in beta stage and kept adding new stuff which helped me to learn step by step rather than having it all there to begin with. Then I realized my blog wasn't getting the attention for me but for RealTown and I moved to Typepad. The domain mapping still is not done. It's one of my "round tuits"! I can't forget Active Rain which was a great place to play with other professionals who blogged.
- IM - Sometimes that's the only way to communicate with my children! They never answer their cell phones but I spy on them when they're online!
- SKYPE - Really getting tempted. The service sounds too good to be true!
- RADIO - That would be talking politics! KQ, KOOL 108, KS95, WCCO, actually most of the stations depending on my mood and what kind of music I want to hear.
- MUSIC - Reggae, R & B, soul, some metal, rap, old classics, classical, country, some jazz, almost anything with bass.
- TV - Dog Whisperer by far the favorite, SVU, Dancing with the Stars
- BOOKS - most any fantasy fiction; historical romance; classics like Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien; mysteries; crime; biographies; war; Stephen King; most any really well written book
- PODCASTS - listen to them but haven't made one yet
- COMMUNICATION - I prefer e-mail, cell phone, land lines with a head set, IM
- MAGAZINES - Victorian Homes, This Old House, Birds & Blooms
- NEWSPAPER - Pioneer Press, Twin Cities Biz Journal, TwinCities.com, The Onion, North End News
To share the honor of describing their media consumption, I meme The Codgers Jay and Medford, Linda Davis of Eastern Connecticut, Lisa Dunn of Real Sage Advice, and Carole Cohen of Cleveland, Ohio.

Thanks Bonnie, I think! lol It's funny, 1996 sounds like just yesterday and it's sobering to think it's...not! I enjoyed getting to know a bit more about you through your media history :-)

Anyway I can bribe you to get out of it? Just teasing. This is better than telling those secrets anyways!

Done. http://blog.ctrelocation.com/public/item/174022

Fun to learn all this about you, Bonnie. Now I need to do the same thing, since Ms. Cohen was "gracious" enough to meme me. This brings back memories of you inviting ME to AR back in late August or early September 2006. So long ago....

I certainly wouldn't want to suffer alone OR in silence! Jeff, this one will be easier than the secrets. If I had that many secrets about myself, I'd not be very transparent! And, yes, those were the good ol' days at AR!
Lisa and Carole, quit whining or I'll send you some cheese to go with the whine!
Linda, the link you gave required authentication so I changed it to the public link.
When you each get your meme done, come back and post a link!

See I always listen to you :-)

Thanks for being a sport Bonnie and playing along. I found yours because of Carole's.

Hey!
I am following this "media consumption diet" thread and am trying to suggest an idea of a Commfree Day - one day every month to be spent away from media and information technology. I have a post with more explanation about it and will be glad to hear what you and others think about it: http://thinkmacro.wordpress.com/2007/07/08/commfree-day/
Thanks!
